We have been exploring the impact of children’s theater on personal development. Discovering one’s “inner voice” is a vital part of growing into a confident adult, and theater offers a healthy, supportive space for children to take personal risks, whether through creative expression, public speaking, overcoming challenges, or engaging with others. We are currently piloting our initiative at two Oregon-based theaters: Liberty Theater’s Kids Make Theater program in Astoria and the Stages Performing Arts Youth Academy in Hillsboro. Both organizations have been welcoming and enthusiastic about our involvement.
